Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Mechanic.ai website ("the Website") and the Mechanic.ai service you unlock with it ("the Service"). By creating an account or using the Website you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

1. The Service

Mechanic.ai is an AI assistant ("Mike") that helps you understand problems with your vehicle. On the Website you create an account, choose a plan, pay and manage your subscription; you use the assistant in the Mechanic.ai app. Mike is an AI and can be wrong: he does not replace a workshop. His answers are guidance, not a certified inspection. Always confirm safety-critical repairs with a qualified mechanic.

2. Your account

  • You need an account to subscribe. The same account works on the Website and in the app.
  • You must be 13 or over, or the higher age at which the law in your country allows you to consent to data processing.
  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe and for activity on your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time from the Account page.

3. Plans

Mechanic Standard, Mechanic Enthusiast and Mechanic Professional raise the daily message and attachment limits and remove ads. The limits and prices of each plan are shown on the pricing page. Limits renew every 24 hours.

4. Subscriptions and payment

  • Plans are monthly and renew automatically until you cancel.
  • You can cancel at any time. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout where required.
  • Payments on the Website are taken by Polar, our payment partner and merchant of record, on its secure checkout page. We never see or store your card details. When you pay you also agree to Polar's Buyer Terms.
  • Subscriptions bought inside the app through the App Store or Google Play are billed and managed by that store, under its own terms.
  • If you have more than one active subscription, your access follows the highest plan.

5. Discount codes

You enter a discount code after you choose a plan, and our payment partner, Polar, checks it at checkout. A code may apply only to certain plans. Some codes give a discounted price that continues for as long as your subscription stays active. If you cancel, the discount ends, and if you subscribe again you need a valid code again. We may stop offering a code to new subscribers; subscriptions already using a continuing-price code keep it while they stay active.

7. The OBD2 scanner

Erasing fault codes from a vehicle's computer is a real, permanent write: it clears stored codes and freeze-frame data and resets emissions readiness monitors. Use it only on a vehicle you own or are authorised to service. We are not responsible for losing diagnostic information that you or a technician needed, or for any inspection or warranty consequence of erasing it.

8. Acceptable use

  • Do not misuse the Website or the Service, try to bypass plan limits, or interfere with how they work.
  • Do not use them for anything unlawful.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or abuse the Service.

9. Availability and liability

The Website and the Service are provided "as is", and an internet connection is required. We work to keep them available and accurate but cannot promise they will always be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that result from decisions you make based on an AI answer, including repair, safety, inspection or warranty decisions. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms. If a change materially affects you we will tell you in advance, and we change the "Last updated" date above.
